A big chunk of the important estate sector in IT cities like Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad houses IT employees coming to the cities from various corners of India. While the rents at Pune and Hyderabad are somewhat manageable, rents at cities like Bangalore can often exceed 10,000–12,000 rupees monthly if you're looking forward to an honest place to remain . With the onset of labour from culture, most of the IT employees have now returned to their native places, leaving maximum PGs and rented apartments empty. And this has resulted during a loss of revenue for the owners.
IT is one such industry where the workers are enjoying work from home, even today while the remainder of the sectors have called their employees back to the office. With increased productivity from employees, higher profits and lesser expenses, I don’t see the IT giants calling back its employees anytime soon. Many organizations have already declared work from home till the centre of next year, some till the top of 2021 also. While on one hand, the workers are happy about it, the PG and flat owners won’t be a cheerful person hearing this. Their revenue depends largely on these IT employees and if they continue performing from home, they're left unemployed basically. On top of that, they have to distribute money from their own pocket to buy the upkeep and land taxes. Hence, permanent work from home are going to be affecting them very badly.
I will share one instance that happened with my friend . He was staying during a hostel at banglore for his IAS preparation and was stuck there during the lockdown. In May this year, he managed to return back somehow but tons of his belongings remained in his room. After a couple of months once we enquired about the belongings, the owner said that she had to sell them off to form their ends meet. an equivalent happened to several other students who were in banglore . Existing students went back and no new students are going. in order that they are left with zero income basically. Imagine the desperation once they need to unload the belongings of the students!
