 Permanent work from home will have some short term positives like reduced pollution and a cooling land . But within the long term- IT hubs like Bangalore and Pune would become blighted as its economy would tank. India remains a serious services economy, we don’t have enough manufacturing to enrich and having permanent WFH can only reduce the IT hubs to shanty towns. FDI would start to plummet, companies would default [no work, no income] and therefore the banks saddled with NPAs. the govt would be forced to print extra money which would jack the inflation. Regarding the important estate and construction sector , it might take successful and cause unemployment. The poor labourer’s aren't educated and resourceful enough to upskill themselves in Python and Javascript. Their families would be destroyed.

A lot of individuals wrongly assume that remote work would improve the economy of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. They don’t know the history of IT revolution in India. Cities like Bangalore and Pune didn't become IT hubs a bit like that. There are many favourable factors like pleasant weather, defines research investments. Bangalore and Pune has important defines cantonments and corporations like ISRO, HAL are headquartered in Bengaluru. This enabled a favourable environment for IT investments. You moving back to your village and doing work from home wouldn't improve the economy of your village. Your company should found out offices and supply jobs for that to happen. I am myself from alittle village near Gobichettipalayam in Western Tamil Nadu . I even have my familial ancestral home and therefore the primary occupation there's agriculture. A window overlooking the farm land features a view like this: Trust me- i might like to leave behind the hustle and bustle of Chennai and Bangalore and calm down here with this view. Maybe once I turn 60 plus, I can consider this as a retirement option, but not at the age of 30, once I have tons to realize in life. Also Gobichettipalayam doesn't have the climate of Bangalore, neither does ISRO and HAL have their research wings found out here…;-)

If future remote work becomes a norm, then many IT companies would start hiring globally. you'd be competing with not just your city folks, but also with the parents sitting in Philippines, Vietnam and Bangladesh. Freelancing would become more common place than regular desk jobs. And freelancing isn't a perfect career path to those that are hooked in to a daily pay ask a family to run. you would like to actually become cost-competitive and be able to work for lower salaries since a mean Vietnamese is prepared to figure for half the speed as an Indian. otherwise you got to tremendously become skilled enough to justify your current rate to be considered. In short- permanent WFH wouldn't only impact the economies of IT hubs, but also come to harm your career growth within the future .
